46 Reasons to Donate to Love146

So I haven't done this in quite a while. Monday's a list day. At least according to Anna at abdpbt.com. I participated for a while and then I stopped. Right around the time I stopped blogging on a regular basis the last time. Today however I have found something worth creating a list for.

So here it is. 46 reasons to donate to Love146

  1. For your daughters

  2. For your mother

  3. For your sister

  4. For your niece

  5. Because you never had to go through this

  6. Because you did

  7. So no child will ever have to suffer through sexual exploitation again

  8. For little girl number 146

  9. For the two children sold every 60 seconds

  10. Because there are more slaves today than there were 150 years ago when it was abolished

  11. For the over 100,000 children forced into prostitution or pornography each year

  12. For all the girls that "lose" their virginity multiple times

  13. For all the abortions that these girls are forced to undergo

  14. For the little girl that was sold by her sister to a brothel

  15. For that same little girl that was forced to watch sex tapes and other girls service clients to learn the business

  16. For "Cristiano" who sold himself for $1 to survive from the age of 8

  17. For "Maly" who was gang raped at 11 while scrounging for food

  18. For all the girls that are routinely electrocuted if they don't comply

  19. For all the girls that are forced to live in underground concrete rooms under conditions worse than our prisons

  20. For Long Pross who had her eye gouged out for asking for a few days rest after a forced abortion at 4 months

  21. Because human beings are not commodities

  22. Because children should not be for sale

  23. So pedophiles from the west don't have anywhere to escape to

  24. Because Martin Luther King Jr. said, "Justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love."

  25. For the 99% of European victims that are never rescued

  26. Because the legal age for sex in the Czech Republic is 15

  27. Because those same girls are sold for as little as 15 Euro (approximately $22 US)

  28. Because you believe that change IS possible

  29. Because there are better ways to live

  30. Because we are spoiled in America

  31. Because I am willing to be offended so that children can be protected, are you?

  32. Because the average age that someone enters prostitution in the U.S. is 13

  33. Because an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 adolescents are sexually exploited annually in the U.S.

  34. Because human trafficking is the fastest-growing criminal industry in the world

  35. Because they're earning an estimated USD$5 billion to $9 billion annually

  36. Because the children are treated as sexual objects and as commercial objects

  37. Because children aren't objects

  38. Because these children often suffer irreparable damage to their physical and mental health

  39. Because they face early pregnancy and risk sexually transmitted diseases, particularly AIDS

  40. Because child sex trafficking is often only treated as a form of child abuse

  41. Because children make up 40% of prostitutes in Thailand

  42. Because it is estimated that 2 million children are exploited in prostitution or pornography every year

  43. Because it is estimated that there are 60,000 child prostitutes in the Philippines

  44. Because many of the 200 brothels in the notorious Angeles City offer children for sex

  45. Because one-third of runaway youths in America will be lured into prostitution within 48 hours on the streets

  46. Finally, because it's the right thing to do.

This list was originally going to be longer. However, the more research I did the more my heart hurt and I had to stop or I was going to be non-functional for a while. I know that this is a very depressing list however it is something that I feel very strongly about and needed to share with all of you. If we don't know it's going on in the world how can we ever expect to stop these atrocities.

Even if it's only one dollar please visit my Firstgiving page and help do something to stop this horrendous practice.

Scarf and something closer to my heart

So the scarf was completed on 12/27/09 and is about 12 feet long. My honey loves it and wears it every time we go outside.

As for what's closer to my heart. I am a big fan of CakeWrecks. Recently they decided to do fund-raising for the Christmas season. One charity per day and a request of a $1 donation to each charity. One of the charities they featured was an organization called Love 146.

I read the story of how they got their name then cried for a while. Then I got mad and decided to do something about it. I started a FirstGiving page. You can go here to donate.

I challenge you to read that story above and not find something to donate. Check your couch cushions, dig all the change out of your car, take in all those soda cans you have laying around the house. Every little bit helps abolish the child sex trafficking that they're fighting.

If you know me in real life and don't have a credit card, or don't feel comfortable using it online, you can give me cash and I can add the funds myself. I'll make sure your name is credited.

10 grains at a time

I found this really cool site while stumbling tonight. It's called FreeRice.com.

It's a trivia site where every correct answer donates 10 grains of rice to hungry people around the world. Go check it out. Have some fun pissing yourself off with the incorrect answers and surprising yourself with the correct ones.

1 Answer to a Hypothetical Question

A few days ago Dooce posted a question.

If you could donate some money to a starving family so that they could feed their children but were only allowed to do so if you also gave an equal amount to a crack addict to buy more crack, would you?

She left the comments open on this one. Which I have noticed she's doing more and more lately. I didn't respond to that question. Several thousand responses did come in, quite a few of them were blasting her for asking such an obviously political question. Which it totally wasn't. I am going to answer that question now though.

Having been in the situation where my mother had to decide if she would eat or my brother and I would, I would so totally give the money to the family. My logic is this. If that person takes my $20 or $50 and goes and buys crack eventually they will get bad shit or OD and die. One less crack addict to worry about. However, it might mean one mom or dad that doesn't have to do without and become ill because of a lack of or improper nutrition.

I know some of you may think that's callous and cold and I'm a major bitch for even thinking something like that. However if you're giving them money to buy crack they're not going to use it to get into rehab or buy food. You gave them the money to BUY CRACK. That's what they're going to do with it. Those kinds of people are not helpable, is that even a word?

I'm all for trying to help people that genuinely want the help. That are ready to give up their addictions and clean up their lives. We should have places for them to go where they're in a controlled environment relearning how to be human and not drug addicted monsters. I'm not trying to say that all crack addicts are hopeless. But the ones that are happy with their addictions? Fuck em. Let them kill themselves. I'll even help them on their way if it means that someone else gets the help they need.

Some People are Crazy

And I'm not referring to the mom in this story. While I can understand concern about a child being left unatended in a vehicle I have to agree with the mom in this case.

I live in Utah. It snows here. If I were helping my older child donate to a charity, even if it wasn't one I personally supported, and my younger child were sleeping in my warm car I'd leave my younger child sleeping in the car. Even if that meant I was going to be arrested.

Fortunately the prosecutors eventually saw things differently. Charges to be Dropped

March for Babies

It's that time of year again. I've signed up for the March of Dimes March for Babies. I posted for this last year and didn't make any money for the walk. I'm going to try again this year. You can make donations at http://www.marchforbabies.org/katrinajoy

Please take a few minutes of your time and make a donation. You can donate as little as a dollar. Premature births are an epidemic here in Utah and I'd like to do something to help. You can too.
